Choosing the Charter School Model: The charter school model is appropriate because TESA fulfills the stated goals of the charter school program (Texas Education Code 12.001). Specifically, TESA provides unique educational and fine arts opportunities, attracts new teachers to the public school system, and has increased school choice. Also, the charter school model is appropriate because TESA augments already existing public schools and charter schools. TESA's unique program provides families with true choice. While there are numerous performing arts schools throughout the country, most are private schools, which by their very nature, limit enrollment to families who can afford the cost of attendance. TESA provides artistically talented children, regardless of their economic situation, with programs that more fully meet their needs.
