Reading Incentive Program

These are notes for the students and parents.  Thank you so much for participating in this year’s Reading Program.  It is a chance for students to practice their reading and raise money for books for themselves and their classrooms.

Start Date:  Mon. Sept. 21, 2009                          Finish Date: Mon. Oct. 5, 2009

1.  Take a look at your student’s reading folder.  It explains the entire program. 

2.  Make a goal to read at least 20 minutes a day for 14 days.  Shoot for 1000 minutes.  Everyone who reads 1000 minutes or more will receive a medal!  Write down your minutes on your folder.

3.  Ask friends of your family and relatives to contribute a few dollars to support your reading.  Your goal is to find 10 people to contribute $10.  Record your pledges on your folder.  You will have an envelope for your money.  Be sure to write your name and your teachers name on your reading folder. 

4.  Make Checks payable to: Becky Choat.

5.  The class that raises the most money will earn a donut party!

6.  The student who collects the most pledges will receive a special prize! 

7.  Each night different students in each classroom will check out a book catalog and take it home to select the books for their wish list.  Then bring it back to school the next day for someone else to check out.  At the end of the program, mark the books that you want the most that total 1/2 of your pledges.

9.  The program ends on Monday, October 5, 2009.  Please turn in your Reading Log and money to your teacher by Wednesday, October 7, 2009.  Your Reading Log will be returned to you with your books and certificate.

Be sure to mark your favorite books on the wish list and add up the total to be 1/2 of the amount of pledges that you collect.  You will receive 50% of the pledges you raise in books and your classroom will receive 60% of the pledges you raise in books.  That means if you collect $100, you will receive $50 worth of books and your classroom will receive $60.  That’s 110% received back in books!! 

The books will arrive 2-3 weeks after the end of the program.
